May 5-June 2, 2019 at UnCommon Grounds in Saratoga Springs, NY.
Love Compost is a collection of photographs, the subject of which many people would consider garbage. The images are mostly, (but not exclusively), of food waste from my kitchen. All of the once-living subject matter that I photograph makes its way to my backyard composter where it is allowed to decompose naturally. What began as a momentary pause at the window above my kitchen sink… an observation… became a meaningful photographic meditation, a practice, a necessary ritual, and a path.
The images are neither contrived nor manipulated, though they are artfully composed in my mind’s eye. This food waste, that is generally seen as rotten, useless, decaying, and worthless is viewed through a more open lens, a shifted perspective.
Please come see for yourself and join me on May 8th, from 5pm-8pm for an opening reception at UnCommon Grounds, 402 Broadway, Saratoga Springs, NY.
Sharing this body of work for the first time in May is extremely exciting for me, coinciding with International Compost Awareness Week, May 5th -11th, 2019.
Photographs will be for sale, with a portion of the proceeds to benefit Sustainable Saratoga’s compost efforts.
