A PHOTOGRAPHIC JOURNEY DOCUMENTING
THE CONTINUAL CYCLE OF LIFE COMING FORTH FROM MY KITCHEN

Love Compost is a collection of photographs, the subject of which many people would consider garbage. The images are mostly (but not exclusively) of food waste from my kitchen. All of the once-living subject matter that I photograph makes its way to my backyard composter. There it is allowed to decompose naturally. What began as a momentary pause at the window above my kitchen sink…an observation… became a meaningful photographic meditation, a practice, a necessary ritual, and a path. My photographs were first presented as a collection in Saratoga Springs, N.Y in celebration of International Compost Awareness Week in May 2019. This message is even more relevant today. Enjoy the video! These photographs were first presented at Uncommon Grounds in Saratoga Springs, NY, in conjunction with International Compost Awareness Week, in May 2019, with a donation made to Sustainable Saratoga.

As the momentum of Love Compost grows, I continue to photograph my own compost, and now beyond! To celebrate businesses that compost, I am creating COMPOSiTions that reflect what they do, featuring their individual personalities, with their own compost. Yes!…and I know that it’s difficult to imagine, and I just can’t wait to share them! If you have a business, and you compost, and are interested in this photographic project, please contact me.

COMPOSiTion

Simply put

If we resist less

Remain aware

The natural order of things

The cycle of life on Earth

The ancient knowledge of roots and leaves

Will accept our folly

Cleanse, renew and return

As if by magic
